The city selectively collects solid waste at decentralized stations. As for household waste, 30% is delivered to trash-incinerating power plants and 70% is safely buried.

Another major effort is the opening of several tire recycling factories in Dongguan. Every year, approximately 1 million tires are treated. More than 30 enterprises collect recyclable plastic to make Styrofoam thus meeting the needs of other enterprises.

Old-tire Recycling Treatment

Most of the glass waste is recycled and only a small portion is buried. Hazardous solid waste is safely buried or burnt. These measures reduce solid waste, prevent hazardous waste harm and enable recycling.

The method of recycling green waste is non-harmful. Treated grass, branches and leaves are used as fish feed and some other green waste is crushed to be used as organic fertilizer.
